Style: A new attempt was made to learn a bit about Pixar's style.
Pre-design: When designing the characters in the early stage, it was decided that the difference in silhouette type should be used to differentiate the characterization.
Concept: All the tourists in the film, except for the main character, are round, fat and clumsy. Besides dividing the tourists into the same type of group, it is also intended to reflect the indulgence in oneself and the fact that one can enjoy excellent treatment without having to put in any labor.
The shapes of the lower class laborers, such as fishermen and cooks, are chosen to be square to reflect the mute, unchanging nature of the characters.
The silhouettes of the chef and the fisherman are just enough to fit each other. In addition to considering the impact of daily work on the body shape, there is also the back-and-forth nature of their work, such as the fisherman fishing for fish and the chef cooking fish.
